Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind

Wizard's First Rule
****½

I will admit that I’m a bit behind the times here.  This book was published in 1994 and is the first book in the Epic Fantasy series “Sword of Truth” and is now the source material of a new network Drama called The Legend Of The Seeker.  That said, having resumed my unmitigated hunger for new books to read, I thought now an appropriate time to tackle this series.

I must say, I was quite impressed character development and timing that Terry has shown in this book and I can definitely see why it is rated as one of the must read fantasy series.  While a little disappointed with the conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed following Richard, Khalan, Zedd and the rest of the cast in their journey across the three lands.

Richard is a humble wood guide who makes his home in the magic free Westland.  While mourning the death of his father by investigating a mysterious vine his father had left for him in the hills near the Boundry (a magical divide between the world’s three lands) he becomes swept up in magical and mysterious happenings that change all he knows about not only his family and friends, but the entire world itself.

Whether you’ve watched the series, or not, I would highly recommend that you read this books.  Fans of the television show might be either elated or disappointed on the quite noticeable difference in character relationships and personalities between the books and the show, however personally I much rather prefer the book’s version
