I hope that those of you who read it enjoy it even half as much as I have.

The Storybook of Love
by Jennifer CasementSuch depth within the title, I move my fingers gently across the embossing.
The first page is the dedication, one love to another.
I read your thoughts while I listen to the melody of a composition.

My heart beats with every line I read describing your way of thinking.
The song cries out in depth within the background.
I turn another page and ignite the flame.

The story begins, two lonely people,
Searching for a solid object within a mythical life.
The melody increasing with the chromatic step of notes.
Like life itself stepping towards a better future of light.
As I read of the spring lilacs turning to the guiding sun.

I tuck strands of hair behind my left ear.
I hear the cadence move the music through.
The candle burning.
The melody repeats on a lower octave harmony.
As if you are reading me each word through the musical note.
Time and devotion running through my mind.
Another page turned.

The candle drips hot wax down the side forming a new soft shape.
I glance over where the flame strengthens as if I want it to.
My heart warms, becoming the soft new shape, it flutters deeply.
Words describing : You are my inspiration, my heaven.
Two people have found each other; life.

I finish your words and sit back comfortably on the couch.
Staring off into the distance, glancing out the window.
I close my blissful eyes.
I sigh, I breathe.

In the dark I dwelt, for years alone
The echo of the cage to haunt me
And memories to chill my bones
Oh how it lingers still, the memory of those days
When with joyous intent, he brought me forth
And sent me on my way
He had no way of knowing of what would come to pass
That the world can be such a cruel place
And the people could be so crass
And when it was over
And all was said and done
I laid torn and broken
And had no choice but run
To the safety of this dark cruel cage
Where naught could find or harm me
And as my master began another page
He had no choice but hide me
And here I’ve dwelt all alone
Safe from harm
But all hope is gone
Until that day I met you
As your light lit up the room
And sparkled from clinging dew
To guide me from the gloom
To greet the morning sunshine
To set me on my path
To leave all hopelessness behind
To find my home at last
For you have turned the tide
And brightened up my home
For you the world begins anew
I feel it in my bones
I’ll shout it from the mountain tops
So all the world can hear
For me the dawn has broken
And I hold you close and dear
I wish for you to listen
To what I have to say
For you have stole my heart

She made it quite clear that it’s something that all men ask, though honestly for me it was more just dowsing for what sets her heart a flutter, rather than not having any ideas of my own.

Personally, Valentine’s day is just another day. But wait, before you kill me let me explain!!! To me there shouldn’t be the need for a holiday to honor the one that you love, that should be everyday. Being the romantic fool that I am, I would find great pleasure in simply making sure that my cherished one greeted every dawn with a smile and knew that she was special and important to me.

Anyway, I’m working on a short story to describe how I would surprise a special someone with a surprise “Valentine’s day” some warm summer day. It may end up a bit sappy, but check back as I might end up posting it here for all of you to read.
